At some stage, our journey on this world will come to an end. Although we all hope to live long, healthy lives, HYP wants to ask the question – do we need to prepare for the worst case scenario? Do we need to be proactive when it comes to our passing?
In this event presented by the good people at Tompkins Wake, we hope to share some advice on a hard topic for young professionals.
We will also combine this event with some social drinks and light nibbles. Bring your colleagues and friends along and get proactive about your estate planning!
By this time Winter was pretty much over – so we thought we better celebrate that warmer days were on the way! Everyone joined us for another night of laughs, good chat and catch ups at our regular social event at Joe’s.
Together with the Waikato Young Lawyers, we talked about workplace bullying and harassment, taking a stand for our working communities. Whether you had experienced it first hand, seen it happen to others, or been fortunate to have not experienced it yet – this event continued the important discussion of mental wellbeing and the need to feel safe at work.
Our awesome panel of experienced speakers make for a fantastic night. A huge thanks to Bridget Jelley, Shane Way, Andrea Twaddle and Tracy Tucker.
We didn’t let the winter weather get us down! HYP paired up with the Waikato Young Lawyers for a Mid-Winter Christmas-do, without the Christmas, sooo we called it a social.
All in all, it was a night of good chat, a couple of brews and some laughs – so are you coming along?
We were talking side hustle’s and all about the ways that you can maximise your 5pm – 5am grind to build on your skills, fuel your passion and ultimately make you some money outside your everyday job. Our panelists Logan Dodds, the opportunity taker, Steve Sartin, the values man and Jordon Webber, the master multitasker shared some honest insights and great value with the 140 person strong crowd.
We threw it back to the time of butterfly clips, frosted tips, presidential impeachments, classic cartoons and much more, all for a great cause! Our 90’s Quiz Night sold out twice over, with over 120 in attendance and $1125 raised for The Waterboy, which will help them achieve their goal of building stronger communities through sport.
The Chamber and HYP dedicated an evening to digging deep into the world of CEO’s to help fast track yo-pro’s path to management positions with this interactive session, learning from our speakers first hand experience…

We partnered with some great bunches of people at Seed Waikato, Let’s Lead NZ and The Creators to provide you with a space to learn, consider and bounce ideas around to create that positive difference to the future of our city.

Our end-of-year get together brought together a bunch of good sorts who each donated specially picked Christmas gifts for the kids at Rainbow Place – Waikato’s Children’s Hospice.

Fun and informative – just how we like it. A couple of Good George brewery tours gave keen yo-pro’s a detailed insight of the ins and outs of this iconic and fast growing local business, as we retraced where they came from to where they are today.
We couldn’t quite remember the months of the year when we hosted our July Social in early August. But that didn’t matter when it came to teaming up with Confinement to celebrate their opening at Sky City.
It was a social like never before, where we pushed the limits and getting to know new people was a certainty!
Hamilton City Young Farmers (HCYF) and Hamilton Young Professionals joined forces to run a quiz night and auction to raise funds for the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
Over 20 teams of six each came together for a night of fun, laughs and goodwill raising over $1000 between the 2 clubs.
Mixing it up, we hit the road for a grand bus tour of 8 unique showhomes around Hamilton.
We started the day at Good Neighbour and were guided around 8 of the leading showhomes in Hamilton, learning everything we needed to know about the building process, finance, legal obligations and what’s happening in the Waikato region along the way.
We pulled out our best green threads for St Patricks Day!
A great time was had at Lucky Finns celebrating the day of the Irish with a HYP drink specials, live music and great company.
Yo-pro’s dug out their best frocks and fancy hats for one of Hamilton’s racing highlights – the SkyCity Cup.
We even sussed the prime seats in the Lodge Garden Bar right on the home straight!
It was getting close to holiday time and to celebrate The Local Taphouse set us up with drink specials, free platters and a live band!
Quality yarns and choice refreshments were had by all.
Whether attendees knew exactly where they wanted to be in five years time or hadn’t thought about it at all, this event covered it all.
We hosted Head Coach at Coach Approach Leadership + Teams Corene Walker as she ran an exclusive one-hour development workshop to help yo-pro’s figure out where they wanted to be in the future, and how to get there.
Another night of good catch ups. Good Neighbour kindly putting on drink specials and platters for us after work.
If you ever wanted to ask the tough questions about the future of our city – this was your chance.
We hosted a 7Days-style, interactive panel featuring some of Hamilton’s mayoral candidates and got to understand them more and what they could bring to the table if they were to be voted mayor.
To celebrate the great Spring weather we booked out the upstairs are at House on Hood for our monthly catch up.
It was fantastic to all about how we can help break the food-wastage-cycle and support local growers.
We heard from a panel of experts, including Country Calendar star Talbert de Jong (Southern Belle Orchard), founder of Emma’s Food Bag, Emma Sinclair and Sustainability Specialist at Waikato Environment Centre, Camilla Carty-Melis.
Our first social was a blast with a massive turn out of over 100 young people keen to meet new people!

We heard what the experts had to say at the first Hamilton Young Professionals (after the Momentum rebrand of course) and listened to Westpac NZ Authorised Financial Advisor Jonathan Bayley and NAI Harcourts Hamilton Director Theo de Leeuw as they talked us through the different investment opportunities out there.
